As the Statutory Harbour Authority, we are responsible for the provision of hydrographic surveys, the production and distribution of navigational charts and tide predictions, along with the monitoring and maintenance of Aids to Navigation and the promulgation of Notices to Mariners within our Harbour limits.
Responsibilities:
* Undertaking hydrographic survey data acquisition and processing to a high standard, and production and issue of final hydrographic products, including XYZs and charts, in a timely manner to relevant parties.
* Actively partaking in reviewing, report writing and presentation of hydrographic data and dredge progress for various audiences, involving volume calculations and data analysis, and providing advice to the Harbour Master.
* Inspecting, maintaining and reporting on the Port’s Aids to Navigation to ensure compliance as the Local Lighthouse Authority.
* Ensure good continuity through data archiving, reporting and maintaining records.
* Maintain existing hydrographic equipment, and confidently mobilise and demobilise survey equipment to and from vessels, as required.
* Be a key member of the team in testing and trialling new hydrographic and oceanographic survey equipment and software, to ensure the team are fully knowledgeable and skilled in industry advances.
* Proactively supporting the team to engage with new initiatives/information dissemination, and supporting a collaborative approach to the research of new survey methods and equipment, and dredging techniques, in challenging conditions including fluid mud and turbid waters.
* Positively enhancing the document management of the team by supporting the drafting and reviewing of Marine and Conservancy documents and procedures to maintain compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code.
* Actively contributing to the management and organisation of dredge campaigns and Conservancy projects.
* Undertaking training of hydrographic and other marine staff.
* Overseeing annual preparation and production of tide data.
* Enthusiastically supporting in other related marine tasks, as directed, such as acting as crew onboard the Port vessels and various other tasks.
* Supporting effective team communication within the Marine team and wider Port teams to ensure a coherent and collaborative approach to achieving strategic mutual goals.
* Undertaking learning opportunities to build on skills and knowledge and enhance the developments within the Conservancy team.
* Assisting the Deputy Harbour Master (Conservancy), as required.
Qualifications:
You should hold a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in a relevant marine/science/hydrographic discipline.
* You will be able to demonstrate experience in acquiring, assessing, interpreting and validating hydrographic data.
* Ideally, you will have experience of PDS2000.
* Graduates without the relevant experience will be considered, as on the job training will be available.
* You will be a good team player with strong communication skills, with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
A full driving licence and your own transport are essential for this role.
