Specialty Doctor in Neurological Rehabilitation

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Specialty Doctor in Neurological Rehabilitation to join us on a 6 month fixed term contract at Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in York.
Main Duties of the Job
The 27-bedded facility admits patients for post acute and ongoing rehabilitation and includes patients with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, sub arachnoid haemorrhage, acute and progressive and long-term neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis, encephalomyelitis, Guillain Barre Syndrome, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, and others. Each patient has an individual rehabilitation plan, which will include structured learning programmes, practicing daily living skills, community access skills, behavioral management techniques, social skills training, and vocational training and support. This Centre is designed to meet the needs of people who require post-acute rehabilitation, where patients will be admitted directly from neurosurgical or acute medical/surgical services. The aim will be to provide a continuous link for each individual through their pathway of care from in-patient services through to re-integration into the community. There is a unique combination of medical and clinical expertise to support individual patient goals in a fully-equipped and carefully designed living environment.

Job Responsibilities
What you'll be doing:
* The postholder will be a Specialty Doctor within the Woodlands Centre. The duties will be essentially those required of an experienced doctor reporting directly to his/her Consultant and would include:
* The postholder will provide medical cover to the unit.
* The post is for 30-37.5 hours divided over five days Monday to Friday. This timetable will be in consultation with the successful candidate.
* The postholder will be supervised by and have access to the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine. The Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine will be at the unit for a minimum of 1 day per week, to support ward rounds and weekly team meetings etc.
* Advice to other staff, and audit work as required.
* Flexible use of time depending on the needs of the department.
* Training and education of nursing staff and medical students on ad-hoc basis.
* Responsible for keeping clear, full records to medico-legal standards.
* To communicate fully (subject to the overriding factors of confidentiality and the patients’ interests) with patients, their relatives, family Doctors, and other health and social services colleagues.
* The postholder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances and to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
* There is currently no on-call commitment but this may change at a later date and the successful candidate, following consultation, would be expected to participate in any out of hours on-call requirements.
* This timetable is subject to review and may be amended in consultation with the postholder to reflect the changing priorities.

What you'll have:
* Candidates are only eligible to apply who have had at least 3 years postgraduate experience at SHO or higher level, (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 1 year of which should be in General Medicine. The possession of a higher qualification is desirable.
* Experience of Rehabilitation Medicine, Medicine for the elderly or Neurology would also be an advantage.
* The appointment is subject to the postholder being fully registered with the General Medical Council and having satisfactory medical and DBS. Applicants must also declare their immigration status, if applicable.
