We are looking for a Platform Engineer who can help to maximize the potential of the developer tooling eco-system and surrounding technologies. To ensure the wider organization can rely on these tools to be functional, performant and available at all times, while remaining cost effective.
The Team
We are expanding our DevOps Engineering team who are charged with transforming how we design, implement, scale, and maintain DevOps across the Digital Services organization within Aflac. Our DevOps strategy will enable developers across our Agile teams to self-service the tools they need to deliver high quality software with low risk, quickly. Enabling autonomy of Continuous Delivery through full end-to-end automation including the build, elevation and release process in a transparent, secure, and compliant way. The investment in this technology will ensure that we can accelerate delivering exceptional experiences for our 50 million policyholders.
But it’s not just a technology change; it’s a mindset change. Pivoting an organization towards a new way of doing things requires a passion for progress, automation, and a determination to eradicate manual effort. And so, we are adding to our team who love the technology - but more importantly - are relentlessly seeking to positively impact the status quo and identify global optimizations which can help improve the flow of our agile teams.
We’ll be using a range of different tools and technologies, and the goal is to empower our developers to develop, build, test, and deploy their code in a frictionless way. We want them to be masters of their own destiny and avoid relying on countless invisible teams to perform tasks on their behalf. The aim is to reduce the cognitive load on our teams and to provide them with best practices, security, and compliance out of the box in an autonomous and self-service way.
What you’ll be doing
1. Designing and engineering scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-effective hosting solutions for our on-prem enterprise developer tools within AWS.
2. Configuring and maintaining our self-hosted and SaaS tools primarily through Configuration as code.
3. Monitoring and reacting to the health of the tools.
4. Working with our wider team.
5. Defining and enforcing standards through automation and guardrails.
What you should have
Below is an overview of the skills and experience we are looking for, but remember, don’t rule yourself out if you don’t have everything on the list – it’s your intellect and your attitude we’re really after.
1. Self-starter and highly motivated.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
3. Bachelor’s degree. Comparable commercial experience may also be considered.
4. Demonstrable technical capabilities in related technologies.
5. Experience building within public cloud (Strong AWS Preferred, however training can be provided).
6. Experience building fault tolerant, scalable solutions.
7. Experience with Infrastructure and configuration as code (IaC and CaC).
8. Experience with at least one common scripting language (bash, PowerShell, python, etc.).
9. Monitoring & Observability using industry leading tools such as Dynatrace.
10. Experience working with engineers, leaders, and functional areas located in different time zones.
11. Understanding and appreciation of good software engineering practices/processes.
12. Experience working with CI and CD pipelines.
13. Experience managing and maintaining SQL databases.
14. Understanding of containerization and container orchestration (i.e., Docker, K8s).
15. Good understanding of non-functional requirements.
16. Experience with disaster recovery planning and testing.
So that’s us. Thanks for taking the time to read this far (pretty impressive in the era of the 280 character tweet). We look forward to hearing from you if you fancy joining a tech innovation company with the agility of a start-up and the stability of a Fortune 500 U.S. company.
