We are looking to expand our Practice Clinical Team, which has created an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician.
We have a patient population of around 12,200 patients and cover a demographically diverse population. The Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in making improvements to our medicines management infrastructure at the Practice while supporting the day-to-day operating systems for prescribing safely, effectively, and efficiently to our patients.
We have full-time hours available and are happy to consider full or part-time positions.
The role provides an opportunity to help us enhance our current medicines management infrastructure, work with a supportive team of colleagues on common objectives and service development, as well as improve overall patient outcomes regarding their acute and long-term health needs.
Ideally, we are looking to recruit a Pharmacy Technician with experience in Primary Care, although this is not essential.
Main Duties of the Job
Our Pharmacy Technician would work alongside and under the clinical direction of our Clinical Pharmacist and GP Partners. Operationally, you would be accountable to the Business Manager. The role will require engagement with our current medicines management team and our Primary Care Network Pharmacy Team.
The Pharmacy Technician workload will support the development of a safe, cost-effective, efficient practice repeat prescribing system through reviewing, improving, and implementing medicines management processes where required, benefiting both patients and the practice. Additionally, the role will manage medication queries within remit, conduct cost-saving audits, and support the Practice with its objectives and contractual requirements, alongside compliance with medicines management.
You will work closely and be supported by our GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Clinical Pharmacist, Practice Nurses, Physician Associate, GPST1s, and our Primary Care Network colleagues, including Clinical Pharmacists, Social, Health & Wellbeing Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, First Contact Physios, and Care Home Teams.

Job Responsibilities
1. To undertake medicines reconciliation in accordance with practice protocols and to update patients' medical records/prescribing accordingly.
2. To support the achievement of the Practice's prescribing objectives and targets, including Quality and Outcomes Frameworks, Local Quality Contract, Cost Saving, and Enhanced Service Specifications as directed.
3. To undertake telephone consultations with patients in the context of medication reviews and other clinical services relating to Medicines Management.
4. Working with the Clinical Pharmacist to contribute to the review and development of repeat prescribing protocols/standard operating procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of repeat prescribing systems.
5. To provide advice to GPs, staff, and patients on changes to prescribing to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
6. To participate in medication audits.
7. To assist in the appropriate monitoring and management of prescribing budgets and to liaise with the medicines management team at the ICB as needed.
8. To support the Clinical Pharmacist in providing medication reviews, patient information leaflets, medicines awareness, and to engage with patients and local PPG groups as needed.
9. To undertake and oversee programmes for patients in managing their medications more effectively, considering whether repeat dispensing/meds synchronization would be more appropriate and applying where able.
10. To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk and making recommendations for improvement.
11. To respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner, referring to the appropriate GP in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols.
12. To assist in the submission of claims for personally administered drugs as required.
13. To support the Senior Clinical Teams with the review of hospital-initiated medication changes in accordance with practice protocols.
14. To highlight any medication errors/queries, reporting any concerns to the Clinical Pharmacist/GP Partners for review.
15. To ensure that the medicines management recalls are carried out/overseen that the Prescription Clerk teams are up to date with required monitoring in line with prescribing and any other annual recalls as are due.
16. To oversee and support the medicines management workflow systems, acting upon requests and ensuring that the workflow of the systems is working effectively, and correspondence is being actioned timely.
17. To provide training for practice staff on systems for medicines management/prescribing systems and help develop any required prescribing protocols.
18. To support the New Patient Registration process in ensuring medical records are obtained from the previous surgery timely, any recalls for medicines management are initiated, and their medicines management aspects are transferred as timely as possible.
19. To support the Training Practice elements by assisting in the induction programmes of medical students/placements/trainees, providing an overview of the practice prescribing policies and guidance available.
Person Specification
Experience
* Good clinical pharmacy knowledge, including terminology.
* Understanding of Pharmacy law and ethics alongside current legislation.
* Previous experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting.
* Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams under appropriate supervision and autonomously.

Qualifications
* General Pharmaceutical Council Registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
* BTEC National Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science, NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Previous experience working as a Primary Care Pharmacy Technician.
