About the role Crawley is an exciting place to work, with a vibrant town centre with excellent transport connections. The key elements for this role will be to find pathways out of temporary accommodation for those applicants who hold a main duty. This could be utilising our Housing Register but also accessing the private sector for suitable and affordable accommodation. The post holder will be required to: carry out a variety of assessments and manage customer expectations to reduce time spent in temporary accommodation to ensure those, who are eligible for the council's housing register, are in the correct priority banding and any relevant information is up to date to give appropriate advice to those not eligible for the council housing register on how to seek alternative pathways out of temporary accommodation to discharge the main duty. We are looking for someone who: has excellent customer service skills is motivated and can work well as part of a team and independently is organised, able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines The right candidate will need to have a good knowledge of the provisions of parts six and seven of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and the Localism Act 2011. They will also need to have extensive knowledge of the current Code of Guidance for Local Authorities which includes how to lawfully bring the council's duties to an end. Additional information This post is a 12-month fixed-term contract, funded through our Homelessness Prevention Grant, with the possibility of extension subject to further grant funding.
