Nature and Scope:
As part of the NSEC Highways division, contribute to the safe delivery of the reactive and cyclical maintenance programme across the highway network.
Job Purpose:
The operative will be part of a crew of two or more people, carrying out a
range of routine and emergency repairs and minor civil engineering works in accordance with programmed and reactive work. The work necessitates some work outside of the normal working day.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* To carry out the works given by the supervisor or chargehand in a safe, efficient and timely manner and escalate any issues to the supervisor.
* To participate in emergency and winter standby rotas and respond to callouts to meet business needs.
* Work at different locations around the county to carry out tarmac, white works, gully repairs and any other requirements of the maintenance programme.
* Operate different types of plant and equipment, in compliance with safe systems of work to ensure efficient completion of work as programmed.
* Carry out and record daily risk assessments, daily vehicle, plant and pre - site checks in compliance with safe work procedures.
* Erection and maintenance of sign, lighting & guarding for working in the highway in compliance with legislation and safe working practises.
* Undertake regular maintenance checks for vehicles, plant and equipment, and report any defects in the correct way to ensure equipment is fit for purpose and of a high standard.
Essentials:
* Current highways or construction qualifications
* Experience of highways networks and operations
* Good understanding of H&S, Traffic Management and construction procedures.
* Up to date knowledge of legislation in relation to working in the highway and licences/tickets needed.
Desirable
* Current NRSWA tickets
* Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within a service environment.
