About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the small but ambitious team supporting London’s Victims’ Commissioner, Claire Waxman OBE. Working alongside the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), we aim to ensure that victims’ voices are heard, and that their experiences inform and shape legislation, practices, policies, services, and provision that directly impact victims.
The Policy Support and Engagement Officer will report to the London’s Victims’ Commissioner’s Policy Advisor, and will work closely with the Commissioner herself, MOPAC’s Victims’ and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Teams, Justice Agencies including the Metropolitan Police and CPS, and the voluntary sector.
The post holder will:
1. Support the Victims’ Commissioner for London through identifying emerging areas, undertaking policy work, and supporting press and media opportunities.
2. Assist the Victims’ Commissioner’s Policy Advisors, contributing to the development of policy positions, lobbying, and new pieces of work. These will include but are not limited to: Violence Against Women and Girls, Hate Crime, Modern Slavery, support for victims, and legislation.
3. Lead the communication and engagement with partner organisations and victims of crime.
This role is central to the work of London’s Victims’ Commissioner and provides an opportunity to shape the policy agenda for victims in London.

Political Restriction
Political Restriction: under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011), all MOPAC staff members will be politically restricted without the right to apply for an exemption.
Security Vetting Clearance
The successful candidates will be expected to undergo the necessary security vetting, which may take around eight weeks to complete. Applicants must possess the legal right to work in the UK and have resided in the UK continuously for at least the last three years.

Where are we based?
We have moved to a hybrid working model with office hubs at Union Street (near London Bridge) and Newlands Park (postcode SE26). On average, staff will work 1-2 days a week from an Office Hub, which may differ depending on the role requirements.
