Clinical Fellow (ST3-5) in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care
We have a vacancy for Trust grade doctors in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at University Hospitals Dorset to support the continuing expansion of service. This is an ideal opportunity for an anaesthetist with 3 or more years' experience to consolidate their expertise with an ongoing commitment to career development and education. The successful applicant will provide critical care cover and anaesthetic theatre work both in and out of normal working hours, with onsite and distant supervision by a Consultant Anaesthetist/Intensivist.

Main duties of the job:
* Provide resident cover for the Critical Unit in office hours and shifts of cover with non-resident supervision by a Consultant Intensivist out of hours.
* Provide anaesthesia during daytime hours for the surgical and interventional specialties within the Trust, with indirect (onsite) supervision from Consultants.
* Undertake advanced clinical assessment of the patient to diagnose medical/surgical conditions and initiate treatment.
* Work autonomously in recognised situations, including operating theatres.
* Where appropriate, provide anaesthetic services under distant supervision.
* Utilise professional judgement in managing complex and unpredictable care events.
* Develop and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and MDT where required.
* Provide accurate and effective clinical handovers across all professional boundaries.
* Make and receive patient referrals to/from other medical specialties.
* Document in medical notes, history, clinical findings, physical examination, interpretation, and plan of care.
* Undertake daily reviews of critical care patients and formulate and discuss plans on Consultant ward rounds.
* Actively support the discharge planning process of patients.
* Recognise own limitations and effectively seek appropriate help.
* Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Qualifications Essential:
* Recognised basic Medical Degree.
* GMC Registration.
* 3 years' experience in the specialty at Senior House Officer/Core Training level or higher or its equivalence.
Experience Essential:
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to enter UK Anaesthesia Speciality Training.
* Ability to deliver anaesthesia care for ASA 1&2 cases with distance supervision.
* Clinical training and experience to act as Critical Care Unit resident doctor with non-resident Consultant Supervision.
* Ability to perform within a multidisciplinary team.
* All round general experience in anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia, and intensive care.
