The Emergency Duty Team (EDT) is part of the Children’s Services Directorate, responding to out-of-hours needs for adults, young people, and children and their families or carers that can't wait until the next working day.
The team will become involved to ensure safety where:
* There are serious child protection and welfare concerns.
* Urgent assistance and advice is required by families or carers in crisis.
* Older people are at risk for any reason.
* Requests for Mental Health Act assessment activity.
* People who are vulnerable due to a disability need assistance.
* Children arrested and detained by police where known adults cannot be contacted.
Most cases can be dealt with over the phone, but some urgent situations may require a social worker to visit.
Members of the team lone work on the majority of shifts but are supported by their manager and the on-call senior manager. While on shift, team members provide support to EDT Foster Carers, Care Call, and the out-of-hours enablement/urgent home care services. The team also liaises with other services such as the local intermediate care facility to arrange out-of-hours urgent admissions and works with out-of-hours housing and homeless prevention services. The team takes a multi-agency approach to working with external partners like the police and health services.
About the role:
Our EDT provides an emergency duty response for children, families, and adults in need of urgent out-of-hours social care. The service operates 7 days a week, from:
* 17:00 – 08:30 Monday to Thursday
* 16:30 Friday to 08:30 on Monday morning
* Covering all bank holidays
You must hold a recognised Social Work Qualification or equivalent (SW Degree, CQSW, Dip SW, or CSS) and be registered with Social Work England. You must also hold a university qualification necessary to practice as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) or be willing to work towards this qualification. Knowledge of both children and adult practice is preferred, but EDT can support knowledge development in unfamiliar practice areas for the right candidate.
Due to the nature of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a car or mobility support.
