Social Network: Participate in the provision of the radiography service.
Job Training Programs: Provide radiography for all in patients, out patients, General Practitioner, and Accident and Emergency patients including mobile and theatre. This will include a rotation through all specialties including fluoroscopy.
Development and Implementation: Maintain an interest in the profession and knowledge of new techniques and protocols, attending courses where necessary, in line with the service demand. Continue a personal development plan with guidance from the appraisal system.
Teaching and Training: Expected to participate in the training program in place for radiography students and on occasions other students, from school leavers to pre-registration doctors.
Public Relations: Remain professional at all times, liaise with other clinical teams, and maintain good public relations on a one-to-one basis with the general public and other interest groups.
Main Duties of the Job:
1. Undertake all basic radiographic procedures unsupervised, adapting technique where appropriate.
2. Ensure high professional and technical standards are maintained at all times, advising more junior radiographers as required.
3. Ensure requirements of radiation administration and protection are observed as identified in the department's local rules, procedure protocols, and guidelines, and offer advice to other disciplines on the correct use of ionising radiation.
4. Take responsibility for the patient whilst under your care, maintaining dignity, physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs.
5. Accept referrals from other disciplines, adhering to Ionising Regulations (Medical Exposures) Regulation, IRMER on justification of procedures, and advise other disciplines on the safe use of ionising radiation.
6. Manipulate complex, expensive instruments ensuring safe use of equipment.
7. Access patient records, history, enter patients' details, and retrieve images on the trust's Computerised Radiography / Patient Archiving System.
8. Communicate effectively with all grades of staff, carers, and patients, adapting skills as needed for various patient circumstances.

1. Able to apply a variety of general radiographic skills in unusual general and trauma situations.
2. Record radiation doses on the trust computer system for patients' x-ray records. Record pregnancy status where appropriate.
3. Participate in the out of hours system as required, working unsocial hours, independently in unpredictable situations.
4. Prioritize workload according to clinical urgency/need and hospital targets when working single-handed.
5. Be proficient in Intravenous Cannulation and administration of contrast, being aware of reactions and the appropriate action/treatment needed. Training will be provided.
6. Understand how the undergraduate radiography course runs to enable teaching and supervision of students daily; training can be provided if necessary.
7. Be proficient in controlling violence and aggression and talk down skills for when working single-handed in the department when on call; training can be provided if needed.
8. Participate in the A and E abnormal pattern recognition system.
9. Arrange in-patient transport, liaising with ward and departmental staff.
10. Manage service engineer handover forms.

Person Specification:
Education and Qualifications:
1. Have a degree or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography.
2. Current HCPC registration.
Experience and Knowledge:
1. Experience in a wide range of radiographic procedures, which could have been gained as part of the Radiographer BSc training.
2. Experience in audit and governance activities.
3. Experience in A&E, Theatre, and out of hours radiography.
Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to communicate with all grades of staff and all types of patients, seeking advice as required.
2. Able to work as part of a team.
3. Able to use own initiative when working single-handed.
Personal Qualities:
1. Occupational Health Clearance to carry out duties of the role.
2. Able to cope with stressful and emotional circumstances.
3. Able to multi-task.
4. Flexible approach to working hours and duties.
5. Ability to travel to satellite units.
