Job overview
The Post Holder will enable the Complex Termination of Pregnancy (TOP) service to deliver high-quality care to women at the point of referral, treatment, and safe discharge. They will be responsible and accountable for the safe and effective nursing care for all women within the Complex Termination of Pregnancy service ensuring legal requirements of the TOP process follow evidence-based practice and national guidelines.
The Post Holder will provide clinical leadership, nursing expertise, and advice to support the women requiring complex interventions both medically and psychologically.
The Post Holder will exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Conduct.
Main duties of the job
The Post Holder will plan, implement and review patient care for all women accessing the Complex TOP service, providing expert clinical assessment, intervention, and treatment within their scope of professional practice. Liaising with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless service is provided to women with complex needs and comorbidities.
The Post Holder will work collaboratively with several teams internally and externally who refer women to the Complex TOP service, including regional and national referrals as appropriate.
The Post Holder is responsible for caseload holding for the wider MDT team, ensuring patient safety is upheld both medically and psychologically. The service offers care to women with complex needs and medical comorbidities requiring referral to medical specialties/safeguarding/social services in a timely manner to ensure treatment can be responsive and safe. Good communication by the Post Holder is key.
The Post Holder will keep up to date with the range of Trust guidelines, policies, and procedures pertaining to the service, adhering to the TOP process and assisting medical colleagues to ensure that prescriptions, consent forms, and drug administration follow the national guidelines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Post Holder will ensure the gynaecology service treats women and their families with privacy and dignity, always acting as the patient advocate. Ensuring the clinical environment is appropriate and sensitive to the woman’s needs. Confidentiality is at the heart of your practice. The Post Holder must actively adopt KGH Trust Values and always act as a role model.
Coordinating and managing their own workload for women with complex needs with the ability to delegate to others where appropriate is essential. The Post Holder will act as a contact point for women and colleagues alike and represent gynaecology services to a high professional standard. They welcome and encourage service user feedback to ensure services are fit for purpose, evaluating services and always striving for improvement. Understanding the role of the Complaints and PALS department, supporting the Ward manager and Matron to resolve any issues at source. The Post Holder must understand the Duty of Candour and always promote an open and honest culture.

* Registered Nurse/Midwife – Valid NMC registration
* Leadership/management course
Knowledge & Experience
* 2 years Gynaecology experience
* Up-to-date knowledge of the legal requirements of the service
* Experience of managing safeguarding concerns
* Knowledge of contraception choices for women

If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£49.50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019, all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £16. New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £49.50 for a new DBS check in 3 years' time.
Please note that new starters with KGH are subject to a six-month probationary period.
