Physiotherapy Assistant - Respiratory
At NNUH, it is our privilege to provide healthcare to over one million people across Norfolk and surrounding areas. Our vision is to ‘provide the best care for every patient’, and if this inspires you and you share our values, we really want you to join our team.
NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs. We are enhancing our urgent and emergency care specialist services for patients with significant injuries as a result of trauma and have an ambition to become a Major Trauma Centre.
Our values support our vision and guide the behaviour of everything we do:
People-focused: We look after the needs of our patients, carers and colleagues, to provide a safe and caring experience for all.
Respect: We act with care, compassion and kindness and value others’ diverse needs.
Integrity: We take an honest, open and ethical approach to everything we do.
Dedication: We work as one team and support each other to maintain the highest professional standards.
We continuously learn and improve to achieve the best outcomes for our patients and our hospital.
We want all our staff to achieve a balance between work and personal life and understand how important flexible working can be.
At the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH), we know the benefits diversity can bring to our organisation such as creativity, innovation and compassion. We are committed to being a Hospital for All – being equitable and inclusive, and a place where all feel a sense of belonging. We therefore particularly encourage and welcome applications from candidates who are underrepresented in NNUH’s workforce.
Job overview
We have two substantive contracts and one fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity available until 28th November 2025.
Norfolk and Norwich Hospital is a leading teaching hospital with world-class facilities. Physiotherapy is playing an instrumental role in the exciting developments in the Trust and our team is growing. Our patients rate us highly on quality of care and having friendly approachable staff. We are looking for like-minded individuals to join us and take advantage of the opportunities we have on offer.
We have an exciting opportunity for Physiotherapy Assistants to work within our Respiratory and Older Persons Medicine Physiotherapy Teams. You would be supporting the physiotherapy staff working across our inpatient wards supporting patients recovering from acute illness.
As post holder you will work within a team of Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Support Workers undertaking a variety of clinical and patient related administrative tasks to support the delivery of physiotherapy services to patients. You will assist the Physiotherapists with their interventions and carry out prescribed exercise or functional practice programs that will benefit patients and support the team.
Main duties of the job
Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be working as part of a team and with a caseload of patients with possible complex communication needs.
Particularly with the in-patient roles, the patients that you will be required to see are frequently extremely unwell and therefore previous experience of working in a care setting is desirable. You will be dealing with patients following surgery or recovering from acute illness and as such will work with patients with drips, drains and wounds so it’s not for the squeamish!
This exciting role offers the opportunity to develop your clinical and non-clinical skills with access to in-service training and personal development. You will receive supervision and annual appraisal and take an active role within your own personal development.
Examples of daily tasks involved in the role would be:
* Supporting functional practice such as walking, standing, transfers
* Facilitating exercises programs including strengthening and balance
* Joint working with qualified staff
* Supporting patients to regain function.
