Hours: Open shifts available from up to 40+ hours per week; typical shifts work 4 days on, 4 days off. Other hours and patterns can be accommodated. The business operates 24/7, 365 days per year. Initially, a zero hours contract is offered to successful applicants. This is not a training role; applicants must hold appropriate and relevant qualifications for this role.

The job
Working in partnership with the NHS and other care providers, we take pride in the services offered by our caring, compassionate, and friendly teams of trained, highly skilled Emergency Care Assistants (ECA’s). You will play a key role in the provision of high-quality care, responding to a wide variety of situations including medical/trauma-related emergencies, inter-hospital transfers, urgent, and non-urgent hospital admissions. Our ECA’s work as part of a dedicated team including Ambulance Care Assistants, Urgent Care Assistants, and qualified clinicians to provide patients with potentially life-saving care and transportation to the hospital.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Drive a range of UKEMS vehicles under emergency, urgent, and normal driving conditions.
* Ensure that all patient report forms, both electronic and paper-based, are completed; additional paperwork may include police statements, coroner and solicitor statements.
* Ensure the safe transfer of patients to and from vehicles, utilising appropriate equipment and manual handling techniques.
* Undertake a dynamic risk assessment on arrival at the scene of an incident or support colleagues in this duty.
* Communicate with patients, relatives, colleagues, members of other emergency services, the public, and other healthcare professionals.
* Carry out relevant vehicle and equipment checks, ensuring that the vehicle is properly kitted, cleaned, and stocked; report faults or omissions and complete all appropriate recording procedures.
* Assist in ensuring the efficient use of medical supplies, maintaining adequate supplies, and ensuring all clinical waste is disposed of.
* Maintain timely communications with our operations centre.
* Respond as first responder to incidents where necessary within ECA scope of practice (FREC4).

About you
Our ECA’s have typically worked for a health trust or an independent ambulance service.
Your qualifications will include one or both of the below:
* FREC 4 or equivalent (UCA)
* And/or
* CERAD or IHCD (Ambulance Emergency Driving) (ECA)
* You will have knowledge of current operational procedures and clinical practices in addition to awareness of health & safety legislation.
* Your personal attributes will include reliability, conscientiousness, enthusiasm, and self-motivation. The ability to work under pressure and as part of a team will be relied upon. Interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a calm and professional manner will be second nature to you.
* A full UK current driving licence is necessary. A clean licence is preferred. All licence enforcements need to be declared on application.
* This post is physically demanding. You must be able to lift (together with a colleague) a minimum of c 11 stone/70 kgs.
