As the Workshop Technician (Machinist) you will embark on a Level 3 Apprenticeship working alongside the Engineering team at Johnson Matthey’s technology centre.
As an apprentice Worksop Technician (Machinist) you will learn to manufacture mechanical parts and assemblies, read drawings, train to master the use of milling machines, lathes, grinders, fabrication equipment and welders.
You will also attend college on a day release basis, fulfilling all of the administrative requirements of completing your Level 3 apprenticeship.
The duration will be around 42 months.

Your responsibilities:
1. Working to Engineering Drawings
2. Use of precision measuring equipment
3. Parts Machining – milling, lathe, CNC and manual, grinding.
4. Fabrication – aluminium profile systems, sheet metal and welding.
5. To carry out any other duties that are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
6. Carry out all duties with regard to both legal and site Health & Safety requirements.
Requirements for the role:
7. Enrolment on a Mechanical Apprenticeship Course
8. Interest in engineering and mechanical things ( Desirable )
9. Exposure to engineering drawings ( Desirable )
10. PC skills in Word and Excel ( Desirable )
11. A levels / equivalent in maths and science ( Desirable )
12. Exposure to practical skills in Engineering ( Desirable )
