Mechanical Design Manager Glasswell & Last Ltd are a long established mechanical and electrical contractor, based within Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, providing design, fabrication and installation services to industrial clients throughout the UK. Due to the increasing demands from our clients within the Water, Gas and Electrical Distribution industries we are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Manager to oversee and co-ordinate our team of Mechanical Designers and Engineers. We are looking for an experienced candidate, preferably with previous experience within the water industry. Essential for this role is an advanced working knowledge of Autodesk software, excellent organisation skills, proven management experience and a key technical understanding of the industries we serve. This role involves the continuous improvement, co-ordination, management and organisation of our design resources to deliver excellent customer service, technical compliance and on-time delivery to our clients. The closing date for applications is Friday 5th July 2024. Key Activities include To coordinate all the mechanical design, work required during a project. Liaising with client’s design teams to capture information needed for the accurate costing of projects. Including the undertaking of site surveys. Creating programs and the effective managing and allocate of resource to meet project deadlines. Overseeing and developing 3D construction models and 2D drawings using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Autodesk Plant 3D, Advanced Steel, Revit and Navisworks and prepare them for client review and comment. Liaising with client’s design teams to capture and manage technical queries. Overseeing and creating technical specifications including design risk assessment documents, schedules, 2D drawings for fabrication, assembly and installation, including bills of materials Liaising with fabricators, site managers, site supervisors, fitters and subcontractors regarding technical queries relating to design, fabrication and installation. To ensure compliance throughout the installation stage by preparing ITPs and QA Planning as necessary. To hold members of your team accountable for the work they produce. To contribute towards and produce design processes, documentation and engage within the continuous improvement of our quality management systems. Manage upskilling and improving design resource through training opportunities. Required Skills & Competencies: Ability to create designs in the form of 3D models from verbal concepts, sketches or formal drawings. Advanced working knowledge of Autodesk modelling software: AutoCAD, Autodesk P&ID, Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, Advance Steel, ASD Advanced working knowledge of non-modelling software such as: Navisworks, Adobe suite, Nitro, CorelDRAW, Visio Excellent computer skills, with experience using software packages including MS Word, Excel in addition to outlook. Relevant industry experience in a design coordination or management role, including knowledge of structural calculations, fabrication and site installation. Have a Full UK driving licence and use of your own car.
