This post is for a locum post for a period of six months. It is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist. This post will be offered with a six-month contract.
This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the paediatric anaesthetic team at the Leeds Children's hospital (LGI site) in Leeds.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in the FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetics or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills in paediatric anaesthesia and have undertaken at least 12 months advanced training in this area. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
* To work with other consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive Anaesthetic service in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
* To develop and/or consolidate expertise in Paediatric Anaesthesia.
* To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research already established within the Trust.
* To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes in clinical practice and new technologies available.
* To participate in and progress Clinical Governance.
* To contribute to the undergraduate teaching programme for the School of Medicine, University of Leeds.
* To collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver appropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds.
* To contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in anaesthesia in the Yorkshire Deanery.

3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST
3.1 General Training and Qualifications
* The appointee must hold accreditation in FRCA in the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training or equivalent if currently in a training programme within the UK.

3.2 Experience
* The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of anaesthesia and appropriate experience in paediatric anaesthesia.
* It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials.

3.4 Clinical Audit
* The appointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the lead in the following:
* Mortality and morbidity meetings
* Clinical audit programmes
* Development and application of agreed clinical guidelines.
5. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Anaesthesia.
5.1 Proposed Job Plan
* The post consists of 10 PAs with 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care DCC and 1.5 PA of supporting professional activity SPA.
* This job plan will fit together with colleagues job plans with a careful rota of clinical sessions, to ensure robust cover.
5.2 Accountability
* The postholder is managerially accountable for the use of resources to the Chief Executive and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer through Clinical Directors.
5.3 Standards of Conduct and Behaviour
* He/she will be required to work to the standards set out by the General Medical Council in Good Medical Practice.
5.4 Consultant Appraisal
* Appraisal will be a contractual requirement for all consultant staff.
5.5 Leave Arrangements
* All leave should be applied for in accordance with the Trusts Leave Policy.
5.6 Training
* During the course of your employment, you agree to undergo whatever training the Trust deems necessary.
5.7 Continuing Medical Education
* The Trust fully supports the requirement for CME by the relevant Royal College.
