Job overview
The Capital, Estates and Facilities Directorate are seeking to recruit a qualified Senior Project Engineer with experience of working in a healthcare engineering environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a team on a wide range of technically challenging capital projects.
Main duties of the job
1. Assist the Technical Infrastructure Manager and other senior Estates & Facilities management by taking personal responsibility for the engineering services pertaining to a number of capital projects allocated by the Head of Capital Planning & Development.
2. Offer general engineering expertise and develop feasibility studies, engineering designs, cost estimates, and construction work specifications for allocated projects.
3. Lead the technical design elements of schemes allocated to them, working closely with Project Managers.
4. Undertake a supervisory and mentor role for other engineering officers working within the team.
5. Represent the Head of Capital Planning & Development & Technical Infrastructure Manager at meetings when required.
6. Create a safe and comfortable facility and environment for patients and staff to promote and deliver suitable and effective healthcare.
7. Be part of a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers providing the best possible service to Cambridge University Hospitals.

Qualifications
* Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Building Engineering or other equivalent relevant experience.
* Building contract management.
* Record of continuous development.
* Member of a professional engineering institution.
Experience
* A minimum of 5 years NHS/healthcare experience as an engineer in an acute hospital environment.
* Proven track record of Buildings and services design, development, and construction.
* Knowledge of Legislation relating to Buildings and M&E services.
* Knowledge of First principles of engineering, British Standards/QMS & Quality control management.
* Experience of Software for managing projects and assets.
* Knowledge of BIM & Sustainability in construction.
* Previous experience of managing contractors and direct labour staff in a similar role.
* Extensive knowledge of technical design, installation & commissioning of complex mechanical & electrical installations.
* Previous experience using CAD drawing packages and design systems.
* Experience in participating in meetings involving complex technical information.
* An understanding of all aspects of a comprehensive estates and facilities team.
Knowledge
* Conversant with HTM, HBN, IET, EN, Building Regulations, British Standards and Fire code.
* Maintaining M&E and BMS control systems.
* Proven experience of managing consultants or contractors.
* Excellent track record in technical problem solving.
* Extensive experience of the design, installation, and commissioning of complex mechanical and electrical installations.
* Demonstrate an appreciation of various energy saving mechanisms.
* Good working knowledge of a broad range of clinical practices and procedures.
* An understanding of web technology and the ability to use it.
