As a tutor you will be required to deliver tuition sessions to help these students gain the confidence and level required to attain the qualifications needed and potentially return to further education. Unlike other agencies, 1st Staff also provide a support network for all our tutors. We have a lead tutor for your specific area, designated safeguarding leads, curriculum leads for Maths and English, Behavioral specialist and a Head of Education. We have multiple positions available for those who are enthusiastic about providing 1:1 tutoring to young people with diverse learning needs. Our approach is creative, flexible, holistic, and trauma-informed, aimed at raising engagement and improving educational outcomes. Multiple positions are available, and hiring is ongoing to meet the wide variety of needs we support. The role: The role will be to deliver sessions on a 1:1 basis to young people unable to attend mainstream education. The ideal candidate would have a caring and friendly nature allowing them to build a rapport with the young person. This role will involve providing Maths, English, or Science tuition to young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD / SLD), or other Additional Educational Needs referred to us by local authorities and schools. This role is perfect for those who are eager to work with young people via 1:1 tutoring with a variety of learning needs, in a creative, flexible, holistic, and trauma-informed manner, to raise their engagement and drastically improve the outlook of their educational journey. Position Details:
* Location - Child's home, Local library or Community Centre
* Hours - Part-time or Full-time - Most referrals are between 10-15 hours a week equating to 2-3 hours per day. Tutors looking for a full-time role would usually work with multiple students for up to 6 hours per day
* Start date - ASAP
* Subjects - English & Maths
* To complete lesson reports and provide feedback on student progress
Skills & Experience Required:
* Confidence working with a range of SEN/SEMH and challenging behaviours
* Planning each session of teaching / tutoring / mentoring
* Completing lesson reports and providing feedback on the young person's progress
* Being able to cater lesson plans to the child's individual's needs
* Demonstrating a nurturing and supportive nature with good behavior management skills.
* Good communication skills
* Being able to identify existing and potential barriers to students’ learning and help them to overcome them
* Be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to the individual needs
* Have previous experience of working with children who have special educational needs
* Have a positive attitude and willingness to build a rapport with the child

Tutor employment status:
