Graduate Consultant - Water Quality (Southern Water)
Haywards Heath- West Sussex
Hybrid-homebased with travel to client site.
Permanent, 3-month fixed term role with possibility of extension

The primary purpose of the role will be to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the Southern Water region.
35 hours per week; 9am until 5pm, five days per week (Monday to Friday), alongside a requirement to be on a standby rota, 1 week in 6, for weekend/public holiday and evening work.
More about the role:
1. Attend and investigate water pollution incidents across the Southern Water region
2. Undertake field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling
3. The postholder will undertake desk-based data entry after collecting data in the field
4. Undertake technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time limited in accordance with client requirements
5. Maintain all equipment needed for site and maintain cleanliness of vehicle to a high standard and inform line manager if new equipment is needed
6. Provide accurate and timely information to line management
7. Support the team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels
8. The postholder may be asked to attend monthly team meetings with client and contribute where appropriate
9. Any other duties for which the post holder is qualified and able to carry out.
About you:
10. Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline
11. Understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters
12. A full clean UK driving licence
13. Experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers
14. Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word
15. Excellent organisational and time-management skills
16. Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail
17. Able to work independently and as part of a team following precise protocols
18. Motivated, friendly and confident interacting with clients
19. Experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level would be beneficial
20. GIS skills desirable
21. Understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency
22. Laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance
