ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the new development and enhancement of photo tools, hard tools, and associated fixtures required to manufacture products to customer’s specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and development of hard tool, photo tool, and fixture design to ensure new product meets customer’s specifications, with a focus on efficiency and profitability.
2. Provide technical support, participate in design reviews, enhance existing tooling, and develop project plans.
3. Create and maintain documentation, files, procedures, drawings, and reports for tooling and associated processes.
4. Collaborate closely with NPI Engineering, Process Engineering, Sales and Operations to ensure the successful transition of new parts and technology into production, accurately estimate cost, address capability issues, and troubleshoot problems.
5. Work with customers to develop blueprints for custom and standard part designs, understanding their requirements for form, fit, and function.
6. Analyze data to identify areas of improvement and make tool design recommendations.
7. Ensure tools meet the necessary safety standards, are ergonomic, and simple to operate.
8. Keep informed of tooling and related equipment technology trends for modern manufacturing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Relevant discipline.
2. 2 years of related experience (preferred).
Skills & Competencies:
1. Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar 2D and 3D design software.
2. Experience in tool design, development, and implementation.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and interaction across all organizational levels.
4. Strong problem-solving skills, with an understanding of root cause investigation and troubleshooting striving for effective resolution of challenges.
5. Attention to detail with a focus on efficiency, quality, and cost.
6. Comprehensive knowledge of equipment used in the manufacture and utilization of hard tools used in metal part fabrication.
7. Independent worker with the ability to work well within a team.
8. Knowledge in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
9. Knowledge of GD&T standards as it relates to drafting and specifications.
