Anderson Knight is currently recruiting a Buyer for one of our manufacturing clients based in Edinburgh.
The Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials, components, and supplies required for the production processes in a manufacturing environment. This includes evaluating supplier options, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials. The ideal candidate has strong negotiation and analytical skills, with experience in managing relationships with both local and international suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier Management & Negotiation
o Identify and assess new and existing suppliers to ensure reliable sources of supply.
o Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost savings and improve supply chain efficiencies.
o Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring alignment with company quality standards and timelines.
2. Procurement & Inventory Management
o Place orders for materials, components, and other required products based on production demand and inventory levels.
o Monitor inventory levels to avoid stockouts or overstock, adjusting orders based on usage forecasts.
o Manage reorder levels and safety stock to ensure continuous production.
3. Cost Management & Reporting
o Analyse market trends and price fluctuations to optimise purchasing strategies.
o Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives in collaboration with the production and finance teams.
o Prepare and maintain procurement reports, including cost analysis and supplier performance.
4. Quality Control
o Collaborate with the Quality Control department to ensure all purchased materials meet required specifications.
o Address any quality issues with suppliers and negotiate replacements or refunds when necessary.
5. Order Tracking & Delivery Management
o Track and expedite orders to ensure timely delivery of materials to the production floor.
o Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure smooth receipt, storage, and dispatch of materials.
o Manage supplier delivery schedules, proactively addressing delays or shortages.
6. Data Management & Systems
o Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and inventory levels in ERP or procurement systems.
o Use data analysis to forecast needs, identify purchasing trends, and support budget planning.
7. Compliance & Risk Management
o Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
o Identify and mitigate risks within the supply chain, including contingency planning for critical supplies.
Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPS)
* Experience:
o 2-5 years of experience in a procurement, buyer, or purchasing role, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
o Experience working with ERP systems and procurement software.
