An exciting position has arisen for experienced clinicians, mental health liaisons to join and complement the existing team based at Barnet General Hospital.
The service is working towards the Core 24 model. We are looking for highly dedicated nurses to join our Liaison Psychiatry Services at Barnet General Hospital - Springwell Centre. Our team provides a comprehensive specialist service to patients and carers in the general hospital setting. You will be expected to work a shift system across a 24hr period seven days a week, primarily assessing patients that present with mental health problems, self-harm or as a psychiatric crisis.
Main duties of the job
The main clinical responsibilities for the service include:
1. The assessment of working age and older adults attending the Accident and Emergency Department and on acute wards with mental health problems.
2. The assessment of people presenting with self-harm.
3. Addressing alcohol and substance misuse problems.
4. Managing medically unexplained symptoms.
5. Supporting antenatal and postnatal women with serious mental illnesses.
6. Supporting clinical staff in BGH working with patients with mental health problems.
7. Teaching and training as a significant component of this liaison psychiatry model.
Person Specification
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
* Minimum of 2 years post qualification.
* Experience as an RMN working in older people's and/or working age adult mental health services.
* Experience in the community and mentoring nurse students.
* Experience working with service users with substance misuse.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Articulate verbal and clear written communication skills.
* Ability to participate in the delivery of informal and formal training.
PERSONAL QUALITIES
* Effective interpersonal skills.
* Ability to negotiate and work collaboratively.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* Declared medically fit by the Occupational Health Service to perform the duties of the post.
