Job title: Manager/ Senior Manager R&D Incentives
Company: Swell
Job description: Swell exists to enable innovative Kiwi businesses to access government funding to accelerate their research, development, and growth. The NZ government spends over $1B a year supporting Aotearoa’s innovation ecosystem, but only 20% of eligible businesses are accessing the funding that they’re entitled to. Many businesses don’t know that the funding exists, don’t understand whether they’re eligible, or know how to successfully apply. It is a complex landscape that can be hard for business leaders to navigate on their own. Swell helps Aotearoa’s most innovative and fast-growing businesses unlock R&D tax incentives and government grants, which enables these companies to extend their cash-flow runway, invest in new capital, increase export revenue, stay ahead of the competition, and hire amazing talent to take their businesses to the next level. Our bold goal is to unlock $100 million in innovation funding for Kiwi businesses by 2030, a target we call the Swell100. We’re a small and highly ambitious team who love to move quickly and deliver great results and experiences for our amazing clients!
About The Role: This role is envisioned as a foundational and pivotal part of building Swell’s core team and capabilities. Key responsibilities will include contributing to the creation of the broader R&D tax service delivery strategy, enhancing existing structures and processes, and delivering successful R&D Tax Credit applications for Swell’s clients while providing an exceptional customer experience. Our aim is to build an industry-leading R&D tax incentives team that not only delivers great financial outcomes but also simplifies the process, making R&D incentives more accessible and valuable for our clients. Core elements of this success will come from maintaining strong relationships and credibility with funding bodies and consistently delivering high-quality applications.
Skills & Experience: The role requires strong expertise in relevant RDTI and R&D Loss Tax Credit, relationship management, and strategic planning, with a focus on delivering high-quality applications and maintaining positive client and government stakeholder relationships. You’ll also be able to demonstrate:
* Excellent Client Management: Strong customer relationship skills with a track record of building and maintaining successful client relationships.
* Adaptive Communication: Excellent communication skills that adapt to various stakeholders, including technical teams, non-technical clients, and government bodies.
* Problem Solving: Innovative and analytical thinker with a knack for solving complex problems in dynamic and changing environments.
* Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture and map out strategic directions, while also not being afraid to dive into the details where necessary.
* People Leadership: Proven capability in building, leading, and inspiring teams, ideally in a consultancy or financial services environment.
Benefits: Working with Swell provides the ability to have end-to-end engagement with and take responsibility for client outcomes. You will partner with clients and directly see the impact of your expertise. Swell also offers the opportunity to grow the role and yourself as the company also grows its brand and client base. By joining Swell, you’ll help build the company from the ground up, becoming intimately entwined with its success.
Culture: Swell is a team of driven, innovative thinkers led by an ambitious Kiwi who took inspiration from global best practices and brought them home. We thrive on collaboration and want to work and partner with great people to help Kiwi businesses make waves on the world stage. Everyone’s voice matters at Swell – they value the unique insights, skills, and experiences that each individual contributes. If you’re looking for a place where you can make an impact, be part of a supportive team, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you’ll fit right in at Swell.
