Job Summary
This is an exciting role within the Safety, Security, Resilience, Technology and Accommodation Team situated with the newly formed Department of State pillar within Defence. The role provides a unique insight into the day-to-day operations of Defence and offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a varied, challenging yet friendly and supportive environment.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the operational delivery of Pass and STRAP services within MB. You will be required to drive forward change to improve and streamline these to deliver an enhanced customer focused service to Main Building whilst ensuring adherence to Security, Resilience, and Information Security policies. You will also be responsible for carrying out delegated tasks across the Pass and STRAP functions during busy operational periods. The post holder will need to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders (including the Branch Security Officers Network) to implement change in line with Departmental policies. The post holder will therefore require good written and verbal communication skills as they will be required to produce weekly reports for senior management on the delivery of the services within the team.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
Responsibilities will include:
* Oversight of the Pass Office and support of the STRAP Office Admin alongside the Head Office STRAP lead.
* Continuous review of services including service levels to ensure they remain relevant and improved where appropriate.
* Gaining a working knowledge of all tasks and responsibilities held by the Pass Office (and STRAP Office as you will be expected to provide cover the STRAPSO in their absence).
* Line management of three (potentially four) EO grades.
* Maintain a good customer service skill set and ability to manage expectations of a wide and demanding customer facing position.
* Support wider business in other key areas as directed by the Establishment Security Officer and Principal Security Adviser.
* Support on drafting and delivering security induction briefings to improve security culture and awareness.
* Ability to create and review relevant team application forms to ensure that they align with business and Head Office requirements.

* Proven experience of working in an operational delivery environment.
* Excellent customer delivery skills.
* Proven experience of changing and improving processes.
* Ability to analyse and use a range of relevant, credible information from internal and external sources to support decisions.
* A dynamic, charismatic, people focused good communicator.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of working in the Government Security profession, particularly in an advice/contact/security centre or Pass Office, or experience of working in a customer facing environment.
* Experience or knowledge of working with sensitive information or material such as STRAP.
This post requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and Developed Vetting (DV) and STRAP clearance (or the ability to obtain). As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. Whilst the MOD supports flexible working, due to the nature of this role, office attendance will be expected at a minimum of four days, with one day a week only possible on occasions where business needs can accommodate. We are unable to guarantee set days working from home, or at all.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
