An exciting opportunity has arisen within Pathology to support the Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) Pathway. The LTHT FIT pathway is designed for patients with concerning colorectal symptoms (without rectal bleeding) where there is a GP suspicion of colorectal cancer and is used as part of the referral pathway for suspected colorectal cancer.
The Clinical Immunology Department has a vacancy to work within the FIT navigator team. This post works across the healthcare system providing comprehensive support to pathology, primary care, and endoscopy through coordination of FIT requests and supporting patients and GPs throughout the diagnostic pathway.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and will need good telephone communication skills; be able to work to agreed protocols, work well under pressure, and use their initiative. We require an individual with experience of communicating with service users, ideally with some knowledge of pathology processes, administrative experience, competent IT skills, and strong attention to detail. The post holder will be working within the FIT navigator team, liaising with patients, scientific, and medical staff so will need good interpersonal skills, as well as excellent team working abilities.
Please note that telephone communication with patients is an essential requirement of this role.

The FIT Navigator team is hosted within the Clinical Immunology department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The Clinical Immunology Department provides laboratory support to the wider Yorkshire region and processed over 500,000 requests in 2023/24. Tests performed include both automated and more specialised assays. As a department, we aim to provide a consistently high quality and professional service to all our users, and the FIT Navigators are an important part of this friendly team.
We are currently located at Leeds General Infirmary, Great George Street, Leeds, but are expecting to relocate to our new purpose-built laboratory at St James' Hospital, Beckett Street, Leeds during 2025.
Job responsibilities
The post-holder will communicate directly with patients by telephone to support and encourage them to return samples suitable for FIT testing, and provide communication across primary care, pathology, and endoscopy to support the FIT testing pathway. The post holder will provide safety netting for primary care by being the main point of contact for GPs and practice staff relating to FIT testing. They will support primary care in the follow-up of non-returned FIT tests by liaising with GPs and supporting patients to complete the test.
The post holder will work with the Endoscopy Team ensuring patients with positive FIT test results are escalated onto the 62-day cancer pathway. The post holder will work both directly and indirectly with patients and their carers using a range of IT systems to assist in coordinating the care of patients through their hospital journey.

Qualifications
* GCSE English or equivalent qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience;
Experience
* Experience of working within a healthcare setting in an administrative role;
* Experience of working in a patient/customer-focused role;
* Experience of using healthcare-related IT systems;
* Previous experience in a Pathology-based role may be an advantage;
