Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking to appoint an experienced and knowledgeable SEND practitioner to work within the Learning Improvement Service. This is an exciting opportunity to enhance provision within a newly formed local authority that is committed to improving outcomes for all children and young people with special educational needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with schools and colleges to develop best practices in SEND and will provide direction, advice, support, and challenge so that needs are identified early and the right support is put in place.
Who we are looking for
You will be responsible to the Senior Manager, Learning Improvement Service and will maintain strong links with the statutory SEND Service. If you are ambitious for children with SEND and are ready to take on a new and exciting challenge, the key knowledge, skills, and experience required are:
* Degree and DfE recognised teaching qualification.
* Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development.
* Substantial and varied teaching experience in schools, including at senior leadership level.
* Considerable experience in teaching children with SEN within a mainstream and/or specialist setting.
* Recent, successful experience in monitoring the quality of learning and teaching for children with SEND.
* Proven success in delivering high-quality training and advice to colleagues to secure positive outcomes for children/young people with SEND.
* Experience of data analysis to monitor provision and standards and championing targets for improvement.
* Extensive and up-to-date knowledge of national policy/initiatives/requirements in relation to SEND.
* Commitment to self-improving system leadership.
* Understanding and experience of data analysis techniques and target-setting processes; school improvement strategies and school leadership styles.
* Knowledge and understanding of the national standards for school improvement services.
* Clear understanding of leadership issues as they relate to schools and SEND.
* Excellent, demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills (both oral and written) at all levels.
* Ability to establish effective relationships with a wide range of individuals, groups, and organisations.
* Sort, analyse and evaluate information; apply criteria and make judgements.
