The role Playing a key role in overlooking the mechanical design services and how they integrate with the whole manufacturing life cycle. A holistic role that allows you to build on your mechanical design expertise and gain more experience in a successful manufacturer with opportunity for progression.
Day to day responsibilities:
Leading a small team of mechanical engineers to design and develop components for a range of financial & banking products
Study and analyse data to identify areas that need improvement, implement those changes and ensure the re-build goes smoothly
Hands on mechanical CAD design from concept through to manufacture
Liaising with different department and being involved with interdisciplinary meetings around the design and manufacture
Involvement with the shop floor and ensuring that products are suitable for design for manufacture (if there are any improvements that could be made to either the design or manufacturing process you should recognise these and suggest changes) Essential Experience:
Strong mechanical design background with proficiency in CAD, ideally SolidWorks and/or PTC Creo - flexibility on which CAD system you are most familiar with
Design experience relevant to the industry, i.e.: design of printers, moving packaging systems, bespoke systems, customised production lines, fast moving mechanisms, bespoke machinery, conveyor systems, belts, etc
Consideration of the product development aspect, not just making the product work but considering how it will look
Selection of correct materials, looking at metalwork, shafts, mouldings
Design of plastic parts and design for manufacture
Understanding the design and manufacture lifecycle fully to look at how the product works, identify areas of improvement, use your CAD design skills to implement the changes, and carry through to prototyping
Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes – taking into consideration materials, cost, quality, etc to ensure for the most efficient delivery of projects
Workshop experience
Really the client is looking for someone who has been involved in all aspects of the design process, taking a product from the concept, validating that and giving it to the customer. As there are a lot of requirements the company are happy to accept applicants who haven’t touched on a few of the requirements and provided a salary range to reflect this
