Locum Psychiatrist – Adult Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) • Location: Southampton • Contract: Locum, Temporary, Full-time, Mon-Fri, 09:00-17:30 • Duration: 4-month contract • Rate: £ Negotiable hourly rate £ • Start Date: ASAP We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Locum Psychiatrist to join the Adult Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) for a temporary role based in Southampton. The successful candidate will provide psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment for adults with mental health conditions in a community setting. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with moderate to severe mental health disorders. Key Responsibilities • Clinical Assessment: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for patients referred to the CMHT, developing appropriate treatment plans based on clinical findings. • Diagnosis & Treatment: Diagnose mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety, and provide evidence-based treatment options, including pharmacological management. • Patient Care: Manage and monitor the care of patients in the community, ensuring effective treatment and interventions to support their recovery and prevent hospital admissions. • Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team (MDT): Work alongside nurses, social workers, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated care. • Crisis Management: Offer psychiatric expertise during mental health crises, ensuring immediate and effective interventions. • Patient Reviews: Regularly review the progress of patients and adjust care plans in response to changing needs. • Family Support: Provide guidance and psychoeducation to families and caregivers regarding the patient’s condition and treatment. • Legal & Ethical Compliance: Ensure all care is provided in accordance with relevant mental health legislation and professional standards. • Documentation: Maintain clear and accurate clinical records, ensuring all assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes are properly documented. Essential Requirements • Qualifications: MBBS or equivalent medical degree with full GMC registration (or equivalent for non-UK doctors). • Specialist Registration: Full GMC Specialist Registration in Psychiatry. • Experience: Significant experience in adult psychiatry, preferably within a community mental health setting. • Clinical Skills: Proficient in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, including medication management. • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams effectively. • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic patient care. • Legal Knowledge: A thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act and other relevant mental health legislation. Desirable Skills • Experience with psychiatric crisis intervention and risk management. • Prior experience working within a community-based mental health team. • Knowledge of local mental health resources and services
