Job Description:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Science Teacher with SEND experience to join our dynamic teaching team in St Helens. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for science education and a commitment to supporting students with special educational needs. Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching and Learning:
1. Deliver high-quality science lessons to students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with a focus on students with SEND.
2. Adapt and differentiate teaching methods and resources to meet the varied needs of SEND students, ensuring an inclusive learning environment.
3. Use a range of strategies to engage students with different learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students make progress in science.
4. Ensure that SEND students have access to appropriate resources and accommodations to support their learning and well-being.
2. Individualized Support:
1. Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other specialist staff to develop, implement, and review personalized learning plans for SEND students.
2. Provide targeted support and interventions for students with SEND, including monitoring progress and making adjustments where necessary.
3. Support students with various needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, physical disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
3. Assessment and Feedback:
1. Regularly assess and track the academic progress of SEND students, using both formative and summative assessments.
2. Provide constructive and timely feedback to students, helping them understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
3. Set high expectations for all students and help them achieve their academic targets by adapting teaching strategies to their specific needs.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
1. Work collaboratively with other teaching staff, SEN support assistants, and leadership teams to provide an integrated approach to SEND provision.
2. Build strong relationships with parents and carers, providing regular updates on student progress and discussing strategies for additional support.
3. Participate in professional development opportunities related to SEND and science education.
5. Student Well-being:
1. Promote a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students feel supported and valued.
2. Encourage the development of social skills and emotional resilience in SEND students.
3. Foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and academic achievement, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Key Requirements:
1. Qualifications:
1. QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
2. A degree in a relevant Science subject (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
3. A qualification or experience in supporting SEND students is highly desirable (e.g., training in Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, or a similar area).
2. Experience:
1. Proven experience teaching science at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
2. Experience working with students with a wide range of SEND needs.
3. Experience in differentiating lessons to meet the needs of learners with SEND, and the ability to implement inclusive teaching strategies.
3. Skills:
1. A strong understanding of the science curriculum and assessment procedures.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents.
3. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage diverse student needs effectively.
4. A positive and solution-focused attitude towards overcoming challenges in teaching students with SEND.
Desirable Experience/Skills:
1. Previous experience of working in a SEND-specific teaching role or a school with a high percentage of SEND students.
2. A knowledge of strategies for supporting students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
3. Experience of working with external agencies, such as Educational Psychologists or Speech and Language Therapists, to support student development.
