About Us
XLCC is an independent British company founded in 2020 to address the critical infrastructure needs of the global energy transition.
Our mission is to engineer, manufacture, install and maintain HVDC cable; a critical enabler for the energy transition. As the world moves toward Net Zero, electrification becomes essential. However, there is a global shortage of HVDC subsea cables needed for this transformation.
To meet this demand, we will build a world-class HVDC manufacturing facility in Hunterston, Scotland, along with the necessary marine and project management capabilities. Our factory will create 1,200 high-skilled full-time manufacturing and project management jobs, including 200 apprenticeships and will bring £2bn of private capital into the UK economy.
We have an exciting opportunity and permanent position, for a Cable Jointing Supervisor to join our expanding manufacturing team. Working at a purpose-built facility in Irvine, close to our first factory in Hunterston, Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland.
Role Overview
Due to the scale of the XLCC project, and demand for highly skilled cable jointers in a depleted market, XLCC have created a Modern Apprenticeship (MA) to develop internal talent. The MA includes a day release with Ayrshire College in Electrical Engineering, allowing apprentices to complete an NC, HNC or HND depending on previous qualifications and experience, whilst training to become a highly skilled factory cable jointers. The apprenticeship program lasts up to four years, aimed at developing skilled and highly competent cable jointing professionals in the field of electrical and mechanical engineering.
This is a supervisory role, which will ultimately have the responsibility to deliver certified factory joints from the cable factory in Hunterston where you will lead a team of experienced jointers in full production. Before the cable factory is completed, the XLCC jointing team work from a purpose built cable jointing training academy in Irvine, where this role will be based. You’ll look after a team of apprentices, training them in workshop practices and cable jointing techniques which will be fundamental to their development. Apprentices/trainee jointers will ultimately be required to produce 3x certified factory joints to the final design specification to demonstrate proficiency and final sign off. How they get to that stage will be down to your guidance.
Results and Outcomes
