Work Schedule: Will depend on peer mentor schedule as well as NEXT Steps student schedule. Will include occasional evenings/weekends. This is a very unique position and additional work schedule details will be discussed during interview.
Position Description
Position Summary:
The NEXT Steps program is seeking to hire peer mentors for the next academic year starting in the Fall semester. NEXT Steps is an integrated educational program that offers educational experiences for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Peer mentors will have a variety of different roles that are dependent upon the students’ unique schedules and experiences. Peer mentors may attend classes, help students engage in campus life, assist students with coursework, and build relationships through group activities. At times, peer mentors may be asked to serve programming that could take place in the evenings and on weekends.
Minimum Requirements
Experience Required: None
Experience Preferred: Students with mentoring experience and/or experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Primary Duties
* Provide in-class support by attending classes with Next Step students; this includes supporting with time management, prioritization, and organization.
* Assisting students with the completion of modified course assignments and navigating Canvas.
* Assist and support students in programs by engaging in campus social life.
* Assist students with self-advocacy when communicating with faculty, staff, and peers.
* Provide informational and emotional support as students transition into and/or encounter barriers to their college experience.
* Participate in training activities as planned by the NEXT Steps Director.
* Abide by FERPA to protect student confidentiality.
* Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
* Be a friend.
