An opportunity has arisen for the post of Prosthetics & Orthotics (P&O) Technical Team Lead within the Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology (SMART) Services based within the purpose-built SMART Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. SMART Services (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland and beyond.
The post holder will have responsibility, in conjunction with the P&O Workshop Manager, for the day-to-day management of the manufacturing capability, processes and output from the P&O workshop including workflow planning. This includes the production of high quality, custom made cost-effective prostheses, orthoses, medical devices and equipment for patients in accordance with all quality standards and regulations.
The post holder has day-to-day management responsibility for the Orthotics and Prosthetics Technicians and Modern Apprentices and provides direction to the P&O Advanced Technicians to ensure the delivery and recording of training to the technicians and apprentices.
The post-holder will work closely with the P&O Workshop Manager and will provide operational cover for them in their absence to ensure ongoing delivery of technical services. The post holder will also work collaboratively with the two other Workshop Managers within SMART Services on matters of shared interest and responsibility, and the wider SMART Services’ Operational Management Team.
