The Opportunity
Our client, is currently recruiting for a Fire Safety Engineer to join an established Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services Business.
The role can be based from our Knutsford, Newcastle or Birchwood offices.
Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.
Projects include nuclear generation, nuclear new build and ground breaking SMR technology programmes.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
* As a Fire Safety Engineer, you will develop design solutions encompassing evacuation plans, detection, suppression, alarms, compartmentalisation, and firefighting access/facilities in accordance with industry best practice, policies and procedures whilst considering operational experience and lessons learnt to ensure a robust, low cost, high-quality design.
* Develop robust plans for fire protection systems design and ensure on time delivery, cost and quality is achieved for all project deliverables to align with regular progress reporting.
* Prepare and coordinates assessment and analysis delivery for projects, interfacing with engineering, project management, project controls and document management functions.
* Assist nuclear safety case assurance though project, programme and corporate requirements.
* Provide leadership, mentoring and development to junior fire safety engineers and other adjacent disciplines in a project environment.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
* Degree qualified or equivalent experience in relevant discipline.
* Chartered, or working towards chartership status with the IFE.
* Experience with the design of suppression, compartmentalisation, smoke control, fire barriers, fire alarms and detection systems.
* Experience of application and use of relevant codes (e.g. BS 9999 and BS 9990).
* Understanding of UK nuclear site licensing, safety assessment principles, regulatory guidance on safety assessment and nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
* Experience interacting with regulators e.g. ONR or HSE.
* Experience in scoping and interpreting the results of fire modelling (CFAST or similar).
* Demonstrable team leadership and mentoring experience.
* Experience of nuclear fire safety assessment, principally nuclear safety assessment and conventional fire safety assessment and management.
The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
