Job description
As a Geotechnical Lead, you will be part of the Engineering and Technical function within the Civil Work Program organization and will be responsible for managing the geotechnical risks, setting-up/endorsing the geotechnical Requirements on behalf of the Client, and ensuring that Requirements are being abided to by the Designers and Contractors. The Geotechnical Lead, a subject matter expert acting as an Intelligent Client, will be able to rely on the expertise of specialized entities or third-party geotechnical advisors as may be required.
Key responsibilities are:
* Development of earthworks and structural design parameters
* Tests and trials for anchors, piles, ground improvement, and earthworks
* Ground stabilisation and improvement, road and rail schemes
* Ecology and ground protection for wetland (SSSI)
* Earthworks – excavation, transportation, storage, blending, and backfill (R1++, R1), groundwater dewatering, control, and fluvial flooding prevention
* Ground structures including major anchored cut-off wall, earthworks sea defence bunds, piles, ground stabilisation, tunnel launch shafts
* Marine offshore tunnel intakes/outfalls
* Tunnelling in sand, including grout blocks at launch shafts
* Ground movements to existing nuclear assets
* Development and maintenance of Digital Ground model
Experience required:
* Competent technical knowledge and experience in geology and geotechnical field
* Ability to communicate and engage effectively at a range of levels: Management Team, client departments, design delivery teams, and third-party authorisers
* Clear understanding of design and engineering interfaces with: construction teams, commissioning teams, supply chain, and third parties
* Capacity to manage multidisciplinary teams in a large and complex project environment
* Strong organisational skills to set priorities of actions
* Rigorous capability to conduct workflows from start to completion
* Leadership of teams with different competences, skills, and cultures
