The Communications Manager will identify rich content within NNL and opportunities and channels to deliver quality communications that showcase the science, technology, and innovation at our core; to enhance our reputation for delivering nuclear science that benefits society.
A keen interest in Science and Technology is essential. The role involves leading communication of our science and technology, working closely with the VP of Science and Technology; maximizing content through creating integrated plans that reach a variety of audiences – internally and externally – while working as part of an integrated comms team to reflect NNL’s strategy and ambitions.
The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley, Preston, Sellafield, Workington, or Culham.
Main Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver a communications strategy that amplifies NNL’s science and technology capabilities across all internal and external channels.
* Define and implement an integrated communications plan to highlight key science and technology areas.
* Be an active member of the NNL comms and public affairs team, developing strong relationships within the S&T community.
* Identify and utilize rich content from within the organization to create engaging content for various channels.
* Define clear and consistent messaging tailored to different audiences.
* Create high-quality campaigns to showcase our science, technology, and innovation.
* Drive innovation in science communication by exploring new engagement methods.
* Deliver a pipeline of planned activities that reinforce NNL’s strategy and ensure visibility to stakeholders.
* Lead the production of science engagement activities and publications, including webcast series, reports, and videos.
* Develop reports to evaluate activity impact and inform future strategies.
Essential Criteria
* Experience in technical/scientific environments, with the ability to simplify complex content.
* Proven experience in strategic and multi-channel communication campaigns.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
* Creative writing skills to develop engaging content.
* Strong organizational and planning skills.
* Good influencing and communication skills.
* Experience working with suppliers and guiding content production.
* Ability to build relationships across various levels and with external stakeholders.
* Experience evaluating communication impact through qualitative and quantitative methods.
* Demonstrable experience in similar roles.
* Ability to obtain SC security clearance.

* Additional experience in communications roles.
