Depositary Services (junior to mid-level)
A growing business is seeking to expand its Depositary team in Edinburgh. With approximately 80 employees and consistent year-on-year growth, the company continues to develop with a strong pipeline of future opportunities.
The team requires a motivated and conscientious individual to support its expanding client base. The role involves working closely with all team members and engaging in a dynamic learning environment while delivering high-quality service to clients.
Depositary Function
Under the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD), fund managers (AIFMs) managing assets above certain thresholds must appoint a depositary for each Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) they manage.
The depositary's core function is to act as an independent third party to safeguard investors' interests in an AIF, which includes:
* Monitoring the AIF’s cash flows;
* Verifying asset ownership and ensuring safekeeping where required;
* Conducting general oversight to ensure compliance with AIFMD requirements.
The depositary must operate with integrity, fairness, and independence.
* Supervise and develop junior team members by overseeing their daily activities, providing guidance, and delivering training as needed;
* Ensure personal and team deadlines are met;
* Prepare for and participate in client meetings as required;
* Review legal documentation to verify asset and investment ownership;
* Monitor calculations and payments, such as management fees and distributions, ensuring they align with complex fund documentation terms;
* Assist with onboarding new clients, including KYC/AML checks, and review fund documentation to understand fund structures and investment policies;
* Ensure all deadlines and deliverables are met efficiently.
Skills and Experience
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
* Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail;
* Effective time management abilities;
* Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well within a team;
* Ability to analyse information from multiple data sources, identify key issues, and escalate as necessary;
* Confidence in working with numerical data and Excel formulas to interpret information;
* Experience in professional client communication;
* Knowledge of fund structures (preferred);
* Experience in coaching others is advantageous but not essential.
