JOB TITLE:Care Assistant Day Duty. This JobDescription will be provided to all those making application tojoin the Company in the capacity of Care Assistant. The documentwill be discussed as part of the interview process and candidateswill be expected to show an awareness of the contents and becapable of discussing and meeting the physical demands of therole.
Purpose ofPosition:
The work of a CareAssistant plays a vital part in meeting the personal care needs ofour Residents in a way that respects their dignity as an individualand promotes and encourages independence. You will be directlyinvolved in the care of the Residents physical environment and thegeneral daytoday activities of the home. With others you will beexpected to ensure at all times that the home operations are beingapplied. Importantly you are expected to be proactively involved increating a warm friendly atmosphere and maintaining good relationsbetween residents relatives visiting professionals andstaff.

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:
* Will assist in the daily care of the Residentshelping with dressing/undressing washing bathing and personalhygiene where necessary.
* To help Residents with problems of mobility andother physical disabilities such as incontinence helping with theuse of disability aids and caring for the same as identified in theResidents care plan.
* Apply practical intervention procedures fordementia or behavioural problems
* Help and be involved with the organisation ofsocial activities and to participate in ways intended to promoteResidents physical and mental wellbeing. To accompany Residents oncommunity visits and hospital/doctors appointments. Involvingyourself with Residents in activities such as reading writinghobbies and recreations.
* To help with the setting up of the diningroom/meal trays in readiness for mealtimes. Help serve foodassisting residents with eating and drinking as required. Whenrequested prepare light meals and snacks. Help clear up the diningroom after meals ensuring all dirty cutlery crockery and utensilsare returned to the kitchen.
* To help make and change beds and assist withlight domestic duties such as tidying rooms dusting polishing andemptying commodes as may be required. Ensure all dirty clothing andbedding is taken to the laundry identifying and reporting any itemsrequiring mending
* Monitor Residents medical or physical conditionand report any changes to the Manager/Senior in charge onduty.
* Bring allcomplaints raised about service level no matter how minor to theattention of the Manager/Senior in charge
* Ensure care support and understanding isprovided for Residents who are bedridden or terminallyill.
* Help maintain a safeand healthy environment in the Home in particular with regard toappropriate Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations.To report all accidents either anticipated or arising to theManager/Senior in Charge
* Ensure that all matters relating to Residentsfinances health personal matters etc. are kept strictlyconfidential at all times (refer to the ConfidentialityProcedure)
* Insofar as you are involved ensurethat all matters relating to employees i.e. company finance companypaperwork personal matters etc. are kept strictly confidential atall times.
* To read andwrite care plans and to participate in staff and Residents meetingsand reviews as appropriate.
* Notify the home manager or the person in chargeas soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and alsoon your return to work from all periods ofabsence
* Attend meetingsand training courses as directed by theManager.
* Undertake otherduties as and when required to do so within the scope of yourexperience training and ability
RISKASSESSMENT OF THE ROLE:
You will see from thecharacteristics and responsibility of the role that you will have adirect and personal responsibility for the safety health andsecurity of our Residents. Although the Company does provide theappropriate equipment to assist with the lifting and movement ofResidents there will be a requirement for you to be involvedpersonally with the lifting and movements of Residents oftenwithout the aid of mechanical devices and in this regard you shouldbe aware of those risks so that you can judge whether the role doespresent difficulties for you and a risk for those in yourcare.
A Care Assistant must be ableto:
* Read and have a workingunderstanding of the Companys operating procedures andpolicies.
* Provide physical support to aresident (either alone or with assistance) whilst moving a residenti.e. in or out of a wheelchair bed hoist or other lifting supportequipment provided for that purpose.
* Provideassistance to Residents while walking upright with or without handheld support.
* Being involved in the liftingand/or moving of equipment i.e. static chair wheelchair bedmattress hoists or any other equipment provided.
* You may be asked to work night shift when there isminimum cover by way of assistance when other Carers are notavailable.
* The very nature of the roleinvolves you being active on your feet for prolonged hours whilstcaring for the ongoing needs and requirements of residents. Clearlyrest periods can be taken but these do not take precedence to theneeds of Residents.
* Care for the terminallyill which by nature of the work calls for emotional and physicaldemands outside the ordinary.
* Clean up anddispose of bodily fluids and matter.
* Usingsuch Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the appropriatetimes.
