Due to the continued development and expansion of the Pre-Operative Assessment Unit, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse to become part of a well-established and progressive team.
A challenging and busy environment, the Pre-Operative Assessment Service works within UHB as a specialist team, assessing a wide group of patients prior to surgery. You will be expected to uphold and ensure that high standards of care and professionalism are maintained and delivered.
This is an autonomous role where the post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation, and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. You will take ownership and responsibility for your patients and clinic caseload, actioning investigation results to ensure your patients are fit for surgery.
We understand the challenge and worry when considering change, and we recognise that you will need support from all areas. You can be assured this will be there for you. Led by senior Sisters and a Lead Nurse, you will be fully inducted into the unit, along with 4 weeks of clinical supervision, and encouraged to complete your Pre-Operative association foundation course.
Main duties of the job
You will be appointed a mentor to support you in your new role, and further training will be provided for clinical examination (heart and lung assessment). This is an exciting role for an experienced Registered Nurse to work closely with patients to help plan their surgical journey, working closely with senior colleagues to ensure that patients are safe to undergo surgery and anaesthesia.
In order for you to gain a further insight into the department, our patients, and our amazing colleagues, we would welcome the chance to discuss these opportunities with you. This can be booked by calling 01213715582.
