Job summary
We are looking for an experienced HCPC Registered Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Blood Transfusion Laboratory. You will join the friendly team of Biomedical Scientists & support staff being responsible for the daily management at the Royal Sussex County and Princess Royal sites of University Hospitals Sussex. This is an exciting role at a busy and developing teaching hospital with a Level 1 trauma centre, neurosurgery, haematology, obstetrics, neonatology, paediatrics, cardiothoracics, orthopaedics and other specialities.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the daily management ,quality and training within the Blood Transfusion department at both sites alongside general leadership duties directed by the Lead BMS.
Supervising Biomedical Scientists, trainees and MLAs, including training of junior staff completing their Registration & Specialist Portfolios.
To practice as a Senior Specialist HCPC Registered BMS to provide a high-quality service.
The individual will be expected to apply professional judgement and utilise specialist skills and detailed scientific knowledge to provide a high quality and timely result service.
The successful candidates must be HCPC registered and has obtained a MSc Biomedical Sciences Degree and the BBTS qualification as well as demonstrating a high level of knowledge and commitment aimed at maintaining and developing a quality service in their specialisation.
The laboratory has full training status with the HCPC and IBMS.
The laboratory is modern and well equipped with the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics Vision Analysers.
The Laboratory is currently UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 standards.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.Excellent written and spoken EnglishExperience of the above mentioned analysers would be an advantageAble to plan and priorities own Literate with experience of LIMS systems .

Job responsibilities
To comply with BSQR, maintaining quality with the Blood Transfusion department.
To ensure that departmental policies/procedures are followed by staff within the work area.
To establish and maintain the communication of any relevant information within the team to ensure the continual and efficient running of the service.
To support BMS, Trainee BMS and MLA staff in answering more complex enquiries.
To actively participate in team meetings taking the lead as appropriate and to communicate effectively at all times.
To communicate regularly with Lead BMSs, to ensure high quality standards and the smooth running of the department.
To conduct, co-ordinate and minute departmental technical meetings as required by the Lead BMS.
To attend, address, and lead meetings outside of the Department as appropriate.
To plan and prioritise the work of allocated sections to ensure that reporting of results is carried out in a timely fashion, deputising to cover for the absence of other Senior Specialist BMS staff.
