A bit about the role Silverton's Community Hub is an exciting development building on the success of our residential service in Hamilton. The aim of the Hub is to support families with a child with a disability to ensure the child feels involved in his community, enjoys the childhood experience and builds her confidence whilst developing the family's resilience to deal with the day-to-day challenges of their care giving duties. The role involves individualized support to a wide range of young people from the age of 5-23. The support is personalized to the specific needs, likes, character and personality of each individual child. This is directed through an extensive and well researched care plan which is strongly led by the child's voice. More specifically your role will involve going out and about in the community with young people introducing them to mainstream activities and supporting the child to enjoy new experiences and to follow their own interests. This could include trips to parks, swimming, bowling, the cinema and cinema. It may involve shopping trips, outings on buses and trains, visits to cafes, clubs and museums. On other occasions you would support young people from our Community Hub base. You would be involved in running a range of interesting activities to a small group of young people. This could be arts and crafts based or involve a more life skills approach. There will be a requirement to support our children to understand boundaries, relationships and to still have fun. Some of the children' behaviour will present, at times, as challenging and we will be looking for a support worker who is understanding, compassionate, patient, and tolerant whilst also being a strong consistent adult role model. Direct support hours with young people will be on a rota basis over 7 days. There is a huge demand for our service therefore more hours available. We are looking for someone with a 'can do' attitude to join our team. Ideally you will have: Demonstrable experience of working in a care setting and developing positive relationships through trust Application of a range of techniques to co-ordinate and communicate with service users and their families Demonstrate a solution focused approach to address problems, individually and in a team setting Demonstrate emotional resilience to respond to the challenging nature of the role Possess a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent) or if you do not possess this you must be prepared to complete this within 2 years of commencing employment with us, full support will be provided.
