As a support worker, there’s no such thing as a typical day – every day is interesting and varied. From providing personal care or emotional support to residential care services, to supporting someone with housework or meeting up with their friend for coffee – you will be providing support that makes a real difference to people’s lives.
There will be some important admin to do as well, such as dispensing and recording medicines for the people you support.
Skills and Personal Qualities
Whatever your day includes, as a support worker you’ll need to be patient, caring, and a great communicator. You’ll also need to work well as part of a team and be happy speaking to other healthcare professionals and family members of the person you’re supporting.
Hours of Working
As a support worker, you’ll need to be flexible when it comes to the hours you work, and you could be needed in the evenings, at weekends, or overnight. It all depends on what support the person needs.
Qualifications and Experience
An NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or a similar subject), MAPA & PBM training along with at least 6 months previous experience.
