Purpose of the Role:
Working as part of the machine shop’s manufacturing engineering team you will be responsible for analysing and evolving, or creating, developing, and then implementing process strategies, controls, and documentation to meet the ever-changing needs of the department. You will contribute to the delivery of infrastructure projects within the Machine Shop and Additive Manufacturing areas to meet new demand.
Ultimately, the role is to contribute to the optimisation of the Machine Shop processes to increase throughput and reduce costs whilst ensuring health and safety regulations and component quality is not compromised. Your work within Manufacturing Engineering will not only deliver process improvement, but you will encompass upstream project delivery of information to ensure smooth manufacture of our car components. Role Dimensions:
Reporting to the Senior Specialist, you will develop and maintain robust process controls within the Machine Shops and Additive Manufacturing. Contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of current processes & controls as well as developing new processes to improve manufacturing efficiency and/or product quality.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. To quickly integrate into the team
2. Work with the Senior Specialist to evaluate the existing processes and controls
3. Ensure all current and new processes comply with applicable health and safety standards
4. Develop procedures and best practices to ensure product quality and common working methodologies across multiple shift patterns
5. Document and publish new and existing operating procedures and best practice guides
6. Support local and business-wide improvement initiatives working to meet the demands of other departments
7. Draft process improvement ideals to reduce costs, increase throughput and promote production reliability through personal example
8. Collect data, write reports, and present findings to the Head of Machining and Department Managers
9. Design manufacturing jigs and fixtures appropriate to the metallic machining function
10. Create stage models and drawings to support the manufacture of components
Job requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
1. This role supports the yearlong industry placement from a manufacturing or design degree in engineering
2. Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
3. Experience of cross functional liaison, at university, in the workplace or in the hobby/charity environment
4. Has participated in a team-orientated environment
5. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and MRP systems
6. Experience of introducing new working practices
7. Understanding of Continuous Improvement Methodologies and Control Mechanisms
8. Ability to interpret and present data to drive effective change
9. Knowledge or experience of lean six sigma methodology and principles
10. Basic knowledge of a CAD/CAM system would be advantageous
11. Basic knowledge of manufacturing systems would be advantageous

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
