We are looking for an Environmental Health Officer, who will support the development and operational delivery of the Farming, Food and Health (Regulatory Services) team in the west of the county, covering the Harrogate and Skipton area. Our Service Regulatory Services includes the Councils’ Environmental Health Services, and some Trading Standards functions, and its purpose is to protect and enhance the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors to the County and to protect the interests of legitimate businesses. This is achieved by providing advice and guidance and where necessary by enforcing relevant legislation to deliver the Councils statutory and non-statutory functions of Regulatory Services. The role As an Environmental Health Officer in Farming, Food and Health, you will protect the health of communities by investigating cases/suspected cases and outbreaks of food poisoning and food borne disease. You will ensure that food manufactured, prepared, exported, imported, and offered for sale in the County complies with hygiene, safety and standards and requirements by working with the food industry and where necessary taking enforcement action. You will investigate health and safety at work incidents in line with the NYC enforcement policy and you will protect the health and safety of residents by inspecting and registering cosmetic premises and practitioners. What you will bring As an Environmental Health Officer, you will have a Degree in Environmental Health (BSc or MSc), be a qualified Environmental Health Officer registered by the Environmental Health Registration Board and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. You will have experience of working within Environmental Health and of managing conflict and complaints informally and formally. You will have knowledge of current environmental health legislation and practice and of the relationship with other public agencies, knowledge of Police and Criminal Evidence Act. and experience of court proceedings. You will have a high level of investigative, analytical, and interpretative skills and have the ability to make fast paced decisions based upon evidence presented within an ever-changing environment. You will have understanding of the political context and the ability to operate sensitively and efficiently within a political environment. Ability to carry out tasks in compliance with safe and consistent standards and to promote healthy and safe working practices.
