This is a very exciting opportunity to join Ricardo UK, a renowned global strategic engineering and environmental consultancy as an Apprentice Technician Powertrain Systems based at their superb Shoreham Technical Centre whilst studying to achieve a Level 3 Apprenticeship as an Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician.

£17,000 a year
Salary review after 6 months, subject to passing probation. Thereafter review is every April.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
There are 2 opportunities available, and the successful applicants will complete a structured training programme, with work placements in teams across Test & Facility Operations at Ricardo UK. During the apprenticeship, there will be opportunities to learn how to build, install and test powertrain systems including engines, hybrids, batteries and electric motors. Working on real projects from day one, the apprentice will be helping to deliver engineering programmes for our customers including some of the world's most prestigious automotive and industrial companies.
Key Responsibilities will include:
* Following the route from prototype build through installation to test.
* Learn practical skills including fabrication, hand fitting, machine tool operation and assembly on a range of prototype engines and other complex products.
* Learn about electrical subsystems and instrumentation techniques.
* Work in the powertrain and vehicle text facilities learning to configure and operate the systems used to control the facility and produce high quality test data
* Perform maintenance and software configuration tasks, repairs and component updates on the powertrain or vehicle, according to the needs of the customer.
Practical skills training will be supported by an appropriate academic qualification, delivered using a range of methods including College-based lessons and projects. It is expected that the successful candidates will already have a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and components along with knowledge of how software is used in modern products.

Other requirements
This is a 39-month apprenticeship and applicants MUST BE free from full time education to be eligible to apply for it and have the minimum qualification level to apply for it Applicants MUST BE resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to the start of learning and have work authorisation for the UK. Applicants WILL NOT BE eligible to apply if they have already achieved a qualification which is equal to or higher thank the apprenticeship standard on offer. Applicants MUST BE resident in the area local to the apprenticeship opportunity or be prepared to relocate in time to start employment and study. Applicants MUST BE committed to the learning and stay to the end of the apprenticeship. The start date for this role will be September 2025 with the apprenticeship learning from October 2025. Shortlisted applicants will be invited in for an assessment day on 8 May 2025 Work will be onsite at the company’s premises in Shoreham with attendance at Worthing College at least one day per week. Location is based a 15-minute walk from Shoreham by Sea Town Centre.
