Design Manager\n\nHealthcare / NHS Projects - upto £60K + Vehicle + Bonus\n\nOffice-based - Manchester (with site visits as required) | Reports to: Senior Design Manager\n\nModular Construction | Permanent Role | UK NHS Projects\n\nWe’re seeking an experienced Design Manager to oversee and coordinate the full design lifecycle on complex NHS healthcare projects—from early-stage concept through to site delivery. This is a technically focused, office-based role that requires a deep understanding of healthcare infrastructure, compliance standards, and multidisciplinary team coordination.\n\nYou’ll be responsible for leading design delivery across multiple schemes simultaneously, ensuring alignment with HTM/HBN guidelines, BIM protocols, and NHS framework requirements.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDesign Management:\n\nCoordinate the development of design solutions across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines\n\nManage in-house and external design consultants to ensure timely, compliant, and coordinated design outputs\n\nDevelop and maintain an integrated design programme aligned with the overall project schedule\n\nChair design team meetings and ensure accurate design documentation is recorded and distributed\n\nDrive early-stage design resolution to de-risk delivery and minimise changes post-contract\n\nTechnical Assurance:\n\nEnsure compliance with NHS design standards (HTMs, HBNs), planning policy, and building regulations\n\nManage design deliverables and review processes using Common Data Environment platforms (e.g., 4Projects, Viewpoint)\n\nSupport BIM coordination and integration across disciplines in accordance with ISO 19650 standards\n\nProduce and maintain Design Responsibility Matrices and Design Deliverables Schedules\n\nProactively manage and mitigate design-related risks, clashes, and construction queries\n\nPre-Construction & Commercial Support\n\nInterpret tender documentation to identify technical requirements and constraints\n\nLiaise with the commercial team and supply chain to validate design-related cost inputs\n\nReview and input into contract documentation to ensure clear scope alignment\n\nSupport the preparation of bid submissions with detailed technical specifications and design strategies\n\nRequired Skills & Experience\n\nProven experience as a Design Manager in healthcare, modular, or complex public-sector construction\n\nStrong knowledge of NHS design guidance (HTMs/HBNs) and healthcare compliance requirements\n\nCompetence with BIM workflows, model coordination, and digital collaboration tools\n\nTechnical understanding of building systems including MEP integration\n\nFamiliarity with DfMA, offsite construction methods, and MMC frameworks is highly desirable\n\nExperience using platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and CDE systems (e.g., 4P/Viewpoint)
