The opportunity has arisen for a permanent full-time post as a Strategic Planning and Policy Officer working in the Strategic Planning Team based in Planning Historic and Natural Environment. This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your strategic planning skills and experience through working closely with officers within the County Council, particularly those involved in the delivery of infrastructure, local authorities in Leicester and Leicestershire and other key partners to help enhance and create sustainable communities across Leicestershire. You will:
* Advise on strategic planning in Leicester and Leicestershire as currently expressed in the Strategic Growth Plan (SGP) for Leicester and Leicestershire and on the formulation of future strategic planning policy based on robust evidence, including any substantial or partial review of the SGP considered necessary in the future;
* Ensure appropriate and proportional evidence is compiled to help inform the Local Plan making processes within Leicester and Leicestershire, the key delivery vehicles for the SGP;
* In the context of the national planning reforms, ensure the next and subsequent rounds of Local Plans are informed by the strategy set out in the SGP, or its successor, and the evidence referred to above;
* Liaise with internal key service areas at the County Council and secure their input to emerging Local Plans;
* Assist with embedding the strengthened 'Duty to Co-operate' within the plan making processes across Leicester and Leicestershire, particularly through Statements of Common Ground., We are keen to support employees to balance their working life with other commitments. * A Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, or equivalent level of relevant experience
* Experience of working in a strategic environment that included experience of advising and supporting a wide range of partners
* Experience in Planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating projects and / or programmes, including some experience of those of a more complex nature
* Experience in developing and delivering effective presentations and written communication to staff, partners and communities via multiple channels, including briefing notes, reports, newsletters, websites
* Knowledge of National and local government structures, drivers and priorities
* Self-motivation and the ability to work with minimum supervision, with a professional, creative, problem solving, and solution focussed approach as well as working as part of a team.
* Ability to think strategically, particularly in relation to strategic planning, and articulate thinking clearly both in written form and verbally.
