The primary purpose of this role is to professionally support and undertake Mechanical trades operations and maintenance work across the Trust's sites as directed by line management. This includes activities that may be demanding and/or non-routine, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards, policies and procedures. Assist with the management and implementation of the planned engineering/building maintenance programmes for the Trust to ensure compliance with key standards, both legislative and performance related (as defined through Service Level Agreement) - also meeting where necessary the requirements of the NHSLA.
Main duties of the job

1. Work in accordance with the requirements of HTM's, HBN's, British Standards, Model Specifications and all Statutory Regulations, Codes of Practice and Trust Policies and Procedures, identifying and proposing changes for own work area to the Mechanical Team Leader
2. Prioritise work requirements on essential facilities which could have a direct detrimental impact on the patient experience nurse call handsets, patient toilets/wash facilities and patient beds. The role involves prioritising and being able to react to changing workloads
3. Contribute to the development, implementation and review of the Trust's Estates plans and work closely with the other Estates Managers/team Leaders in the development of works programmes
4. Assist with the set up and Implementation/management of the Estates safe systems of work ( Permit to Work, isolation procedures) under the guidance of AP's to ensure that all safe systems of work are carried out correctly
5. Plan maintenance works, including liaison with users and contractors
6. Supervise maintenance assistants and operational estates contractors, allocating tasks/re-prioritising where necessary, and ensuring the quality of specification and workmanship
7. Liaise with the Estates Helpdesk when receiving emergency works and service complaints
8. Act on own initiative and advise senior staff of implications of technical issues when attending site on call outs
9. Actively participate in the wider team operation

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential
14. HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
15. Recognised and registered EITB, City & Guilds, modern apprenticeship, NVQ level 4 or approved equivalent training in Mechanical/Engineering or Plumbing.
16. Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience within the required technical disciplines ( BMS, decontamination, heating, domestic water services, ventilation etc.)
Desirable
17. Trained in Health & Safety, NEBOSH, IOSH, First Aid etc
18. Registration with approved organisations, UK Register of Electricians, JIB Schemes, Gas Safe, etc.
19. Member of relevant healthcare or engineering institutes, IHEEM, HEFMA, CIBSE, IET etc
20. Experience across several of the HTM's acting as either a CP or AP
21. Efficiency improvement training, Lean / Six Sigma
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
22. Knowledge of maintenance methodologies
23. Knowledge of HTM's, HBN's and Estates specific legislation
24. Specialist knowledge gained from working in a health care engineering environment or prepared to work towards gaining
