Main duties of the job
We welcome applicants with customer care experience or health and social care experience with families within the NHS or other environments. If you have not worked in a healthcare setting before, we will support you to transfer and develop your skills, knowledge, and passion to fulfill the responsibilities in this role. Communication, kindness, and compassion are important attributes in this role, and you will be supported to develop your skills within experienced nursing teams.
You should be highly motivated with excellent communication skills and enjoy working with people in a positive, energetic - and at times demanding - environment delivering care for children and families.
Job responsibilities
* Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
* Undertake a range of delegated clinical care duties to deliver agreed plans of care, acting on own initiative.
* Ensure that patients receive high-quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs, and doctrines.
* Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of individuals.
* Act as an advocate for patients within the department to ensure a patient-oriented approach to the delivery of care.
* Provide support and assistance to professionals in the implementation of plans of care for individual patients.
* Collect specimens from patients, as directed, and record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate. Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse.
* Undertake venepuncture/cannulation when requested by a healthcare professional (training provided).
* Respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care.

Qualifications/ Education
Essential
* Evidence of general education e.g. GCSEs or equivalent
* NVQ III in Health care or equivalent qualification in the area of speciality (e.g. Operating Dept. Practice for posts in Theatre)
Skills/Knowledge

* Clear and accurate written and verbal communication.
* Proven ability to follow instructions as well as use own initiative
* Understanding of the requirements of patient confidentiality
* Punctual and reliable
* Able and willing to work flexible shift patterns, including weekends and bank holidays, according to service needs
* Demonstrate ability to use own initiative and work without close supervision
* Able to listen effectively and demonstrate a sympathetic/sensitive approach
