The Digital Media Platforms and Planning team in BBC Children's and Education are looking for an experienced strategic digital leader as Head of Social and YouTube for parental leave cover.
The role leads a multi-skilled team of circa 20 with a portfolio across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, WhatsApp, and YouTube for CBeebies, CBBC, iPlayer, and Bitesize brands.
We are looking for an experienced digital leader who is passionate about delivering creative digital content and campaigns to reach and engage kids and families. We need someone who is pro-active, loves creative problem-solving, understands our audience, and has a proven track record in delivering audience growth to be part of the team.
As Head of Social and YouTube, Children's and Education, you will be leading a large multi-skilled team to deliver our team goal of connecting young audiences with the BBC. You will inspire your team to deliver creative excellence and high-performing content that's driven by data and insights to grow our audience reach.
Main Responsibilities
1. Leading a high-performing and highly motivated team to deliver high-impact and distinctive social media campaigns and manage a portfolio of YouTube channels.
2. Playing a key leadership role in the Digital Media, Platforms and Planning team to guide and shape our overall strategy, success measures, team happiness, and ways of working.
3. Be a key and active influencer of social media strategy for the whole of the BBC.
4. Acting as senior point of accountability on editorial decisions related to compliance, Editorial Policy, music rights, interactivity, and other issues of editorial sensitivity.
5. Working closely with channel, commissioning, and production stakeholders to drive social media excellence and innovation in line with the strategy and performance metrics.
6. Using insight and data around new audience behaviours and translating this into recommendations for teams.
7. Working closely with wider BBC social teams to resource and plan social campaigns that have a significant impact on young audience perceptions and time spent with iPlayer.
Are you the right candidate?
1. A record of working with major brands on social media, developing and delivering social media strategies, creating content and managing communities, and using analytics to inform decision-making.
2. An understanding of television production and commissioning processes. Understanding of Children's media and education is preferred.
3. Planning and organising skills across several areas of work, reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
4. Experience of delivering integrated social media projects alongside broadcast output.
5. Leadership and influencing skills to deliver new initiatives and influence strategic thinking at senior levels.
6. Ability to understand audience needs and behaviours across platforms/devices/content and translate this into strategic thinking.
