Job summary We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical/counselling psychologist or psychological therapist who enjoys a variety of work roles to help service users and their families in the older peoples mental health team in Newcastle. Main duties of the job The post will involve supporting service users and their families living in the community with a range of issues faced in later life. These may include mental health challenges such as loss, bereavement, mood issues and self esteem. Also helping people to manage health and cognitive difficulties, and family issues. The clinical aspect of the post will be to provide assessment, formulation and psychological interventions to help people improve their mental well-being. There is a focus on working within an experienced mental health multidisciplinary team with joint working and the provision of supervision and developing formulations and care plans key. Cognitive assessment will also be part of the role. In addition to working with people in their community you will also work part time in the day hospital which aims to help people presenting with more complexity or risk. Through joint working and teaching, enhancing and embedding psychological knowledge within the team is part of this role. Supervising trainee clinical psychologists from The Newcastle Doctorate course is also expected within the post as we are a training department and training in supervision methods would be expected. Research and service development initiatives will be encouraged for the post holder and they will be supported to develop within the post. Clinical leadership will be developed within the role.
